Paint to Music

The semester has finally coming to an end, and as a parting activity of 2D design, Ms. Lisa suggested paint to music as our final individual assignments. The activity take place beside the lake, and is seperated into 2 session, the 1st one was classical music, and the 2nd one was modern music.

For the 1st session, when the classical music started to play I was able to see colorful and pleasant flow of the life with a hint of grandness and trouble. And so I begin to paint it in a flowing wave manners using soft colors while adding some bright color such as red and purple that stand out to bring the grandness in the music. While the dripping patterns was painted to shows troubles and instability.

For the 2nd session, I find the modern music quite ambiguous, the lyrics managed to gives out their feeling and emotion of the song but the melody did not make me feel the emotion contain in it, and so I started painting it with color gradient of the sky that goes from day to night, and then a black line was added in the middle to separate the day and the night. And then abstract flower pattern were added to both the day and night. And the result actually brings out my ambiguity, the painting can be view from any direction, from top to bottom or to spin it around. Is it day or night? are those flower or fireworks or was it lamp? These question were implemented to further show my ambiguity of the modern song.

This exercise enabled me to express my emotion better through my hands, and also teaches me the different view point of humans on the same given topic. I was also able to learn the importance of letting yourself run free while doing work, not only it relief yourself but also allow more thinking opportunities with a clear mind.
